Allen West: On Trumps national security team...

This just might be the left’s BIGGEST FEAR about Trump’s cabinet
The Trump national security team is forming, and it’s being comprised of men and women who know national security…not Kool-aid drinking sycophants.

As Written By Allen B. West

It appears everything President-elect Donald Trump does will draw the scrutiny and ire of the liberal progressive media.
Most recently, it seems the left is horrified with the notion that three former U.S generals have been nominated for cabinet-level positions in the Trump administration. The most recent selection was former U.S. Marine General and Commander of USSOUTHCOM, John Kelly as the Secretary of Homeland Security.
There are leftist media outlets troubled by these three generals — General James Mattis, Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, and now General Kelly. Now, ask yourselves, when was the last time anyone complained about too many lawyers in cabinet positions, or too many politicians? Perhaps the left is scared of these principled, dedicated men who’ve served their nation in uniform. Maybe, just maybe, the Democrats are terrified these men won’t take their crap during confirmation hearings or elsewhere.

Maybe we’ll have another display of abject liberal progressive incompetence, such as when Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga) wholeheartedly embarrassed himself before a Navy Admiral believing that the island of Guam would tip over if too many Marines were assigned there. Yes, I know, you just cannot make this stuff up.

Americans wanted something different, and that meant ending the steady stream of political cronyism that had become presidential administration appointments. Now, of course we’re not perfectly clear of it, but certainly, these three general officers represent a true change.
Of course some will ask, why General Kelly — buy my response is why Jeh Johnson?
General Kelly led a major unified combatant command that dealt with an area presenting pressing threats to our Republic.
As reported by CNN, “President-elect Donald Trump has chosen retired Gen. John Kelly to head the Department of Homeland Security…The former head of US Southern Command, Kelly was previously responsible for managing security threats posed by criminal drug networks based in South and Central America — an issue that Trump highlighted in his campaign, and to which Kelly would bring unique experience.
In his former role, Kelly also oversaw operations at the controversial Guantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba. The outspoken general clashed with the Obama administration’s push to close the facility, and told the Military Times in an interview that “there are no innocent men down there.”
If Kelly and retired Gen. James “Mad Dog” Mattis — who was tapped as Trump’s secretary of defense last week — are both nominated and confirmed, then it would place two retired Marine generals into Cabinet posts in his administration. Kelly served more than 40 years in the Marine Corps, moving steadily through the ranks after enlisting in 1970, and taking over as commander of Southern Command in 2012. He is also a Gold Star father, having lost his youngest son, Marine 1st Lt. Robert Kelly, in combat in Afghanistan in 2010. Kelly, who would likely play a significant role in the planning and implementation of Trump’s proposed border wall as the director of Homeland Security, has publicly discussed potential threats along the southern border of the US.
In a March 2015 Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, Kelly testified about “the relative ease with which human smugglers moved tens of thousands of people to our nation’s doorstep” and cautioned that “these smuggling routes are a potential vulnerability to our homeland.”
Hmm, let’s make a simple comparison here…current SecDef Ash Carter is a nuclear physicist, nominated SecDef General Mattis is a combat veteran. Current National Security Adviser Susan Rice is a career diplomat who believed Bowe Bergdahl served with honor and distinction, and Benghazi was about a video. Nominated National Security Advisor, LTG Mike Flynn, was former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, and was the senior intelligence officer for Special Operations Commands in combat zones. Current Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson is a lawyer, and was a financial bundler for Barack Obama’s campaign. General Kelly… well, I think y’all get my point.
I believe what unnerves the left the most is that we’re looking at three men who’ve done it, as opposed to the three they’ll replace who’ve talked about it.
And when it comes to our current state of Homeland Security, let’s take a gander at the December 2016 House Homeland Security terror snapshot, Powerpoint slides linked here, but here are the highlights:
> Since 9/11, the nation has seen 227 homegrown jihadist cases with a recent surge of 115 cases in 2015 and 2016 alone. ISIS’ shift in messaging—from joining the jihad in Syria and Iraq to carrying out attacks in fighters’ home countries—is likely to accelerate this trend.
> Throughout the year, ISIS conducted 62 attacks, wounding 732 and killing 215 in places like the United States, France, and Belgium. The threat to Europe and the United States will persist in 2017, particularly as jihadists flee from Mosul and Raqqa.
> The Iran nuclear deal—coupled with instability in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen—has reenergized Tehran’s hardliners and placed the regime in a stronger position to achieve regional hegemony. Iranian aggression, particularly in the Persian Gulf, has become routine and remains largely unopposed. If left unchecked, Tehran will continue to threaten United States’ interests at home and abroad.
> The Obama Administration transferred 48 prisoners from Guantanamo Bay in 2016. The Director of National Intelligence assesses that at least 30 percent of all former Guantanamo Bay prisoners are known or suspected to have returned to terrorism following their release. As of early December 2016, 59 prisoners remain in detention.
Now, ask yourself, who’s better suited to be Secretary of Homeland Security than a superior qualified former Marine General, John Kelly? We have a battle going on within our borders and General Kelly dealt with the geographic area of operations that contributed to this phenomenon. As well, America is viewed by the enemy as being part of the battlefield, so who better than someone who’s been on a battlefield to rectify our homeland security situation, and work with all respective agencies, to include our military?
Here’s the bottom line: the liberal progressive media needs to stop bellyaching about these three retired general officers being key and integral parts of President Trump’s cabinet. Their talents, skills, experiences, and leadership are needed in the respective positions for which they’ve been nominated.
These aren’t individuals who’ll require OJT (on the job training) and will see their positions as “discovery learning” where they can grow into the positions.
So what gives here? This is a reflection of the true nature of the progressive socialist left: they do not trust, or even like our military. And here the left was ranting about Trump saying he knew more than the generals — well, it seems he’ll have them as key advisors and cabinet members, because he wants their insights, perspectives, and knowledge (i.e. wisdom). As opposed to the Obama administration that basically ran the military from 1600 Pennsylvania and went through four SecDefs. Maybe Obama should have listened to the generals and we wouldn’t have created a vacuum in the Middle East — then again, Obama knows military strategy.
And there will be no competing interests because these are professionals who will guide work in their lanes and coordinate where necessary, because they’re focused on the nation, not themselves.
So, to the liberal progressive media, go find something else to whine about…I will provide the cheese. The Trump national security team is forming, and it’s being comprised of men and women who know national security…not Kool-aid drinking sycophants.
Also, if I can give a little advice to the Democrats on Capitol Hill: don’t try to intimidate former U.S. Marine Corps generals, or any former combat military officer, during hearings…you’ll be embarrassed, made to look stupid, and become a viral You Tube video. And if Generals Mattis, Kelly, and Flynn scare y’all, we’ll make sure they have a binky, hot cocoa, and safe space ready for you.
