On Smelting

When blazing heat of your conversion's day is set,
And darkness of the world surrounds your soul,
You find though new, old habits lodged a threat
Remain to interfere with righteous goal.
The old man may be dead, yet dregs remain,
To float as surface filth when worship flags,
So lean upon the word with faith to gain
The means to skim away the risen slag.
The word of God is grafted to you when
The blood of Christ has given you new life,
And daily use will break old habits then
To save you from the sting of sin and strife.
When utilized the word refines to gold
The rusty iron your former morals told.

Therefore, ridding yourselves of all moral filth and evil,
humbly receive the implanted word, which is able to save you.
James 1:21 HCS
