Easter Thoughts.

I was at Macy's today and I saw a lot of little girls getting new Easter dresses. This struck me as a little ironic as a lot of those girls will not be going to church on Easter Sunday to show off those new dresses. I'm afraid it's become a secular feast, wth the Easter bunny and eggs being the main part of it. Of course the

Obama Accused of Trying to ‘Nationalize’ Elections

President Barack Obama signed an Executive Order Thursday establishing a Presidential Commission to deal with “election administration” that critics say is an attempt to nationalize the country’s elections for partisan advantage.

Easter is a Dirty Word: Tolerance Isn’t For Christians.

America wants tolerance? Well, they aren’t being tolerant of my religion! I am a victim, in my own country, for pursuing what our country was founded on—Christian principles!
Many of us have heard about the Alabama school, Heritage Elementary. Why? Because they just banned kids from saying “Easter” as they didn’t find it tolerant of other religions. Principal Lydia Davenport told WHNT, “So we’re just trying to make sure we respect and honor everybody’s differences.”

Sec of State John Kerry reveals daugter married Iranian-American with extensive ties to Iran

via Secretary of State John Kerry demonstrates why Huma Abedin’s background mattered | Walid Shoebat.

Here we have an example that demonstrates this reality further and it comes via Kenneth Timmerman, who has picked up on the fact that the new Secretary of State – John Kerry – has a son-in-law with family still living in Iran. This reality could conceivably affect how Kerry deals with the Iranians.
Via the Daily Caller:
In a greeting to the Iranian people on the occasion of the traditional New Year (Nowruz) holiday last week, Secretary of State John Kerry exposed a secret that journalists and academics have been agonizing over for the past six weeks: the fact that his daughter has married an Iranian-American who has extensive family ties to Iran.

“I am proud of the Iranian-Americans in my own family, and grateful for how they have enriched my life,” Kerry said in the official statement. Kerry also said he was “strongly committed to resolving” the differences between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, “to the mutual benefit of both of our people.”
Politicians like to keep their families off-limits to the press, a decorum enforced vigorously when it comes to politicians who are in favor with the national media but ruthlessly discarded for others. But in Kerry’s case, there could be larger ramifications.

Since its inception, the FBI has vetted U.S. government officials involved in national security issues, and it generally won’t grant clearances to individuals who are married to nationals of an enemy nation or have family members living in that country, for fear of divided loyalties or, more simply, blackmail.
There it is. Certainly, even leftists can comprehend this concept without inserting race into their thought processes (oh, wait). Imagine a scenario in which a representative of Iran’s mullahs approaches the State Department with a list of demands that, if not met, could have serious consequences for Kerry’s in-laws living in Iran.

In the current political construct, such demands could conceivably involve the U.S. withholding money, weapons, or aid earmarked for a country like Egypt as tensions in the Middle East escalate. While that may not sound like a bad idea to those of us who understand the threat of the Muslim Brotherhood, shouldn’t our Secretary of State’s sole interest be in lockstep with the interests of the United States?

There's a lot of debate on how the Supreme Court will rule on the issue of same-sex marriage. Things You’ll Never Hear From – Or About – Liberals And Their Policies

As regular readers of Rat’s Right! know, one of Rat’s favorite sayings is: “The hypocrisy of liberals knows no bounds.” Combine that truism with the reality of the political lie, which Rat defines as “liberals saying things they know aren’t true for the sole purpose of exploiting the ‘less than informed’ for political gain,” and you know everything you need to know about our friends on the left.

George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation

In an America that is becoming more secular with each passing year, where public school teachers refer to Thanksgiving as “Turkey Day” to their students, at a time where our United States is divided like never before, I implore you to read the following from our country’s first president.

[New York, 3 October 1789]
By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor– and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.
Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be– That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks–for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation–for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war–for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed–for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted–for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.
and also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions– to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually–to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed–to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord–To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us–and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.
Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Stop subsidizing Wall Street

Thomas M. Hoenig is vice chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Imagine if the United States had an airline industry in which the biggest carriers that fly both domestically and internationally received a larger government fuel subsidy than those flying only domestic routes. The fuel of the largest firms in our financial services industry is subsidized, and the public bears the cost.

North Korea plan to attack US mainland revealed in photographs - Telegraph

By Julian Ryall, Tokyo

North Korea has revealed its plans to strike targets in Hawaii and the continental United
States in photos taken in Kim Jong-un's military command centre

The images show a chart marked "US mainland strike plan" and missile trajectories that the NK News
web site estimates terminate in Hawaii, Washington DC, Los Angeles and Austin, Texas.

The meeting of the Pyongyang's senior military leaders was called after two US B2 bombers, flying
out of bases in Missouri, carried out simulated bombing raids on North Korean targets on an island
off the coast of South Korea.

"He finally signed the plan on technical preparations of strategic rockets, ordering them to be on
standby to fire so that they may strike any time the US mainland, its military bases in the operational
theatres in the Pacific, including Hawaii and Guam, and those in South Korea," the state-run KCNA
news agency reported.

It added that the B2 test flights demonstrated Washington's "hostile intent" and said the "reckless" act
had gone "beyond the phase of threat and blackmail."
The North's military was placed on its highest alert level earlier this week and a hotline link with the
South Korean military was severed.
North Korea has also cut the mobile Internet link for foreign visitors, only weeks after the 3G service
was introduced.

Despite the increasingly belligerent rhetoric and new images emerging from the North Korean
regime, analysts believe its missiles are not capable of striking targets as far away as the US mainland
and are not, as yet, capable of delivering a nuclear payload.
The images of Kim surrounded by his officers and diagrams of targets in the US are designed for a
domestic consumption and to demonstrate the young leader's mastery of military affairs, experts
believe.

Good Friday and Holy Saturday: Waiting for the Resurrection

Saturday in Holy Week – in between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, it seems like just a placeholder. Why then does the Church call it Holy?

On the Friday we call Good, our Lord laid down his life for us; went to the Cross in love, and there took on all the weight of the world’s sin, and death too, all for us. He died. His heart was pierced by the centurion’s spear, and blood and water poured out. His lifeless body was taken down, covered in blood and sweat, cradled in his mother’s arms, and then, hastily, wrapped up and placed in the tomb.
And there in the tomb he lay: in  utter passivity, in the complete helplessness of death, resting with absolute and complete trust in his Father who would raise him on the third day.
And so, let us not rush ahead to Resurrection Sunday. Our Christian life is full of waiting on God, and trusting in His timing, but waiting is difficult. Let us wait with our Lord.
The Christian life is also, very often, difficult. Let us wait with our Lord, and remember that there is no place that he cannot find us: no pain too intense, no depression too dark, no weakness too complete. I do not need to reach up to him (I may not have the strength). I may not even have strength enough to hope or wish for him to come to help me. But there is no depth of weakness too deep for him.
The unshakeable fact is that our Lord has gone before us, and opens up the way to lead us through. Not around, but through.
He knows what it is to be helpless, for he lay helpless in the tomb, that Holy Saturday. He knows what it is to trust entirely and absolutely to another, for so he trusted himself to the Father. He has been there; he knows the way.

Organizing for Millionaires

The price of access to Obama is too damn high

My friend Jim emailed me Wednesday.

“Friend,” he wrote, “I want to make one thing absolutely clear: We’re up against a whole lot more than just opposition in Congress.”

Jim—that’s “Mr. Messina” to you—ran President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign. Now he’s chairman of Organizing for Action, a nonprofit formed under section 501(c)4 of the tax code.

Organizing for Action is able to raise unlimited money, does not have to disclose where that money comes from, and engages in “issue advocacy” (“Tell Congressman Smith to grab guns”), but not “express advocacy” (“Vote against Congressman Smith because he likes freedom”).

“Organizing for Action is going to shift the balance of power in Washington back to real people,” Jim told me in his email. “People like you have shown over and over again that no amount of spending can stop millions of Americans calling for change.”  Cont.. Reading

Can the Federal Government Define “Property” For Purposes of Federal Law?

In a post below, Orin notes that many federal statutes define the meaning of the term “property,” even though property is generally defined under state law. If this is so, Orin understandably wonders, how could there be a problem with Congress defining marriage for purposes of federal law in DOMA?

Is US Aid to Egypt a Sharia Tribute?

The U.S. government’s aid to Egypt’s government has been a matter of some controversy of late, and this probably won’t help help: According to Egyptian cleric Dr. Khaled, our payments to Egypt constitute a payment of jizya, the tax laid upon non-Muslims living under sharia in return for dhimmi status (whereby they can be left alone, albeit as second-class citizens). He explained: “If the revolution declares a framework for dealing with the West and America — they will accept it, kiss our hands, and double the aid they give us. We consider this aid to be jizya, not regular aid. . . . They pay it for the right of passage through our airspace and territorial waters. . . . They pay so that we will let them be.”

Socialism is a Euphemism for...

Economics is the study of free markets (or Marx's derogatory term "Capitalism"). Economics does not explain communism or socialism or centralized control because such would be the study of power hungry princes, in other words, politics. The study of free markets boils down to the description of rational behavior in free individuals. More Here >>

Jesus Emerging from Tomb---Awesome

To have such a gift and insight as this painter would be a privilege.

The Resurrection a 12' x 40' mural, oil on canvas. It is a depiction of the moment of Jesus emerging from the tomb.

This mural was commissioned by the Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas, Texas.
The "extra" figures at the sides of the tomb disturbed me at first, but the artist's explanation was very meaningful.

THE 57 CENT CHURCH

A little girl stood near a small church from which she had been turned away because it was 'too crowded.'  'I can't go to Sunday School,' she sobbed to the pastor as he walked by.

Seeing her shabby, unkempt appearance, the pastor guessed the reason and, taking her by the hand, took her inside and found a place for her in the Sunday school class. The child was so happy that they found room for her, and she went to bed that night thinking of the children who have no place to worship Jesus.

Some two years later, this child lay dead in one of the poor tenement buildings. Her parents called for the kindhearted pastor who had befriended their daughter to handle the final arrangements.

As her poor little body was being moved, a worn and crumpled red purse was found which seemed to have been rummaged from some trash dump.

Inside was found 57 cents and a note, scribbled in childish handwriting, which read: 'This is to help build the little church bigger so more children can
go to Sunday School.' For two years she had saved for this offering of love.

When the pastor tearfully read that note, he knew instantly what he would do. Carrying this note and the cracked, red pocketbook to the pulpit, he told the story of her unselfish love and devotion.

He challenged his deacons to get busy and raise enough money for the larger building.

But the story does not end there....

A newspaper learned of the story and published It. It was read by a wealthy realtor who offered them a parcel of land worth many thousands.\When told that the church could not pay so much, he offered to sell it to the little church for 57 cents.

Church members made large donations. Checks came from far and wide.  Within five years the little girl's gift had increased to $250,000.00--a huge sum for that time (near the turn of the century). Her unselfish love had paid large dividends.

When you are in the city of Philadelphia , look up Temple Baptist Church, with a seating capacity of 3,300. And be sure to visit Temple University ,
where thousands of students are educated.

Have a look, too, at the Good  Samaritan Hospital and at a Sunday School building which houses hundreds of beautiful children, built so that no child in the area will ever need to be left outside during Sunday school time.

In one of the rooms of this building may be seen the picture of the sweet face of the little girl whose 57 cents, so sacrificially saved, made such remarkable history. Alongside of it is a portrait of her kind pastor, Dr. Russell H. Conwell, author of the book, 'Acres of Diamonds'.

This is a true story, which goes to show WHAT GOD CAN DO WITH 57 CENTS.

This was sent to me by my uncle, Frank Plata.  Below are his  thoughts and connection to the Chapel of the Four Chaplains which is a part of this church.

Interesting story and something I was not aware of.  My wife and I grew up in this neighborhood. Our parish was "Our Lady of Mercy Church" at Broad and Susquehanna Avenue in North Philadelphia. This Baptist Temple is located 3 blocks south on Broad street.  It sits on the corner in the center of Temple University.  As a kid growing up, Temple was a two building college in the heart of North Philadelphia, today’s Temple "University is a huge complex which covers a very large area of our city.  On those rare occasions I pass through my old neighborhood I have to read the street signs before I realize these were my home grounds till age of 17.   On June 10 1970 I was given a Citizens Award by the Chapel of Four Chaplains Housed at this church for activities I initiated to bring GED programs to the area with sponsorship paid for by local business organizations.  That award has hung on my bedroom wall for 3 decades now.
