Is There Any Common Sense or Inspiration Left for This Generation?

Reading the newspaper today, I am struck dumb by the lack of common sense and righteousness of today’s society.
The Phone Hacking Scandals, the state of the British economy, the rights for terror suspects, Tunisia, Hezbollah being in power in Lebanon, unrest in Egypt and other Arab countries run by dictators which if ousted may then have a government run by other terror organizations and wave upon wave of environmental disasters.

If there was ever a time to think that the Apocalypse is coming you would not be alone in your thinking that we have never been closer to a cataclysmic catastrophe than at the present time.
Looking back over the years there has always been war, corruption, violence, environmental disasters and the rest but has there ever been a time when so much of the above is happening all at the same time?
In times gone by there have always been Inspiration People to show us the beauty, poetry and love that IS within the world, it eases the soul into believing in something better, takes your mind off the bad and helps keep faith that there is some sort of goodness, light, love and hope out there and that they're working towards making a difference.

Where are the Martin Luther King’s, the Gandhi's, the Mother Teresa’s and the John Lennon’s of today??
Why are governments and the people so swayed by mob mentality and influenced by idiotic rules, and ignorant ideals?
Is there any Common Sense and people who stand up for righteousness left in today’s world?
Don’t get me wrong — not all things that are spoon fed to the public via some medias (which I will not name... ahem... The Sun) are wrong but in today’s society when information is so readily available why do the majority of people not want to make an informed decision instead of believing all that is vomited out by these self-serving, money making conglomerates.
When I look at today’s society what I see is erosion... erosion of ideals and principles that should have been used as building blocks for a better future, not something that needed to be replaced by ridiculous laws, procedures, paperwork and bureaucracy which complicates things under the guise of making things “work better”.
Gone were the days when if you fell and hurt yourself it was your own daft fault. Gone are the days when if you broke the Law then you were punished and by punished I mean you have your rights taken away. (Not to say that I am in any way shape or form pro corporal punishment but when I was a nipper and I did something wrong I was punished by having my rights taken away, I wasn’t given the ability to cost the whole country millions upon millions of pounds to improve myself in prison. To have more opportunities than some people who haven’t broken the law and are trying to forge and law-abiding life for myself within the state!) Gone are the days when respect was shown to older people and authority. Gone are the days of communities....
What we now have instead are over the top Health and Safety Laws, young people not being taught right from wrong, Governments being swayed by mob mentality and huge amounts of corruption. Prisons which are more of a Youth Club set-up that anything else, and nothing and no one to show us the way of truth, honor and good old fashion values.
Obviously I do not wish for the restrictions and lack of equal opportunities etc of the by-gone era’s to still be in force but instead of keeping the good things that years of fighting for the “right” Rights have achieved and building sensibly upon these and creating a better world for all and then discarding the bad, we seem to have let the “Good” that was in our society fall by the wayside and in its place we have created a web of unnecessary bureaucracy, fickleness and self-indulgence.

Now before you all start the hating... (and please be gentle, this is my first written err... opinion) let me please surmise what my ideal world would be...
I would wish for a world with morals, camaraderie with our fellow neighbour, fairness, justice and a general respect and love for all things, from all. I would like to think that I'm a generally nice, thoughtful and respectful kinda girl but I am becoming more and more disheartened at the lack of inspiration, beauty, creativity and general goodness and love that is apparent today.
I know that wishing the world was like this is very naive and probably not even possible with the way things are right now.... But if only there was someone... A prominent person or persons to inspire and to spark that hope and belief that we can have a world like that today... If only we strive and fight together... For the “right” thing... Then anything is possible....
